Richard “Dick” Coyle, CLU, AAI, grew up in the Magnolia area and graduated from Conroe High School. He attended Texas A&M and the University of Houston before becoming a helicopter pilot in the US Army. He served in Viet Nam in 1967-68 and was later an instrument flight instructor at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, before returning to Montgomery County and joining Soules Insurance Agency. Dick purchased an interest in the agency in 1972 and became its owner in 1983. The agency is now a part of Dean and Draper, a large insurance firm based in Houston.
Dick received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1975 and Accredited Advisor in Insurance in 1985. He had extensive experience in writing group life and health as well as property and casualty coverage for both personal and commercial customers. The agency’s employees take pride in continuing education and achieving professional designations that help them to better serve their customers. As a result, many of their clients have been with the agency for many years.
Dick’s involvement in the growth of our community included serving as Fund Drive Chair and President of the Montgomery County United Way, as an 11-year board member of MUD 46, and as a board member of the Joint Powers Agency of The Woodlands. His involvement with the Chamber included serving on the Chamber Board, the Private Industry Council of the HGAC, the Downtown Renovation Committee, and the Airport Committee working to get the tower approved. He also worked with fellow Chamber members to encourage new businesses moving into the Industrial Park. He served as president of the Conroe Rotary Club where he was a member for over 33 years. He and his wife Mary Margaret had two grown children and five grandchildren.
