CHAIRMAN 1969
Mr. Everett was owner of Everett True Value Hardware. The business was established in Conroe by his grandfather in 1908. “Buddy”, as his friends knew him, was born and raised in Conroe. He served his country in World War II in the 70th Infantry Division. He and his wife Jane had one daughter, Patti, and two grandsons, Mark Everett Womack, and Patrick Ryan Womack.
He was elected Mayor of Conroe and served from April 1961 – 1965. He was a staunch supporter and worker for the Chamber. In 1962 he toured with a group from the East Texas Chamber of Commerce, promoting East Texas and Conroe to industrial prospects on the U. S. East Coast. 1962 was a memorable year as the City and Chamber had the ribbon cutting for the opening of Interstate 45. He served as Chamber Treasurer and as Chairman of the Retail Merchants Committee. Under his leadership at the Chamber, a new event, the Junior Golf Tournament, was started. This was an activity that lasted through the early 1990’s.
He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, serving on their Financial Board, as Church Treasurer, and as Chairman of the Site Committee for the new church.
