Moved to Conroe in 1963 as branch manager of then University Savings and Loan

Chairman of the Mobility Committee for several years where he did the following: – Spearheaded countywide road bond issue in 1983 – Led group consisting of Chamber and civic leaders to Austin to lobby TXDoT for funding of South Loop 336 – Led a separate group to lobby TXDoT, this time to secure funds for widening US 75 from North Loop 336 to present day FM 3083 – Officer in FM 3083 Corporation, which secured right-of-way and engineering for FM 3083
He showed above average commitment to the Chamber throughout the years, taking a responsible role in every assignment, request, or project in which he was involved.
Mobility was always Burge’s chosen project. From hearings in Austin with TXDoT to local projects requiring hours of commitment with regional and district highway officials, John was there representing the Chamber and Montgomery County with integrity, always fully prepared and knowledgeable.
