On Monday, August 6, 2012, CWS Propane received the Bill Henderson Marketer of the Year award. This award is presented to a Texas propane marketer that has shown innovation, dedication, and community involvement in promoting propane. Wes Welch of Welch Gas presented the award at the annual Texas Propane Gas Association’s Convention at the Gaylord Hotel, Grapevine, Texas.
In 1999, Conroe Welding Supply, a specialty gas business in Conroe, Texas, started, CWS Propane. Their goal was to serve the community while providing for their family.
Working from the first three letters of CWS Propane, the company motto was developed. The slogan, “We Care. We Work. We Serve” became a way to conduct business not just their slogan.
In 2008, Hurricane IKE devastated Southeast Texas. Inland cities like Conroe went without power for nearly two weeks. It was then that “We, CWS Propane, saw a new need and opportunity in the Community- Stand Alone Generators! Sure, there are plenty of places that sell generators and plenty of propane companies that sell the fuel, but we made it a one-stop shop,” states CWS Propane’s Bryan Mercer.
CWS Propane introduced their All Weather Protection Program. This turnkey generator installation service fits well with their “We Care. We Work. We Serve” business model. Mercer continues, “We provide everything: the cement pad, the battery, the generator, the transfer switch, a 500-gallon tank and of course, the propane. Once set, the customer is ready to go, eliminating the need to call for additional support.”
Today, CWS Propane is still locally owned and operated with three locations (Conroe, Porter, and Onalaska) and seven trucks covering Southeast Texas. Recently, CWS Propane added Absolute Propane in the Austin area to their family.
