Jerry Streater was born on November 3, 1936. He grew up and earned a football scholarship to Navarro Junior College eventually transferring to Sam Houston State University where he graduated from in 1961 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He met Sandra during this time, and they married in 1958. During the 1960’s, Jerry worked for Cameron Iron Works, and he transitioned to the automobile business in 1972.

In 1994, Jerry bought into Smith Honda in Conroe and became president of the newly-named Streater-Smith Honda. By the time 1995 came around, he had added a Nissan and Mitsubishi franchise to the company. This would be the focal point of Jerry’s business for the next 22 years culminating in the sale of the dealership in 2016. In 2013 and 2014, he received the President’s Award from Nissan Motor Company and was an active member of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association for more than 20 years.

Jerry has been a member of St. James Episcopal Church for more than 22 years having served on the vestry, finance committee, long-range planning committee and as a senior warden. An active member of the chamber from the beginning, Jerry served as Chairman of the Board of the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce in 1998, and has served as a vice president of the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society as well.

Jerry also served on Conroe City Council for two terms from 2002-2010. He served as the chairman of the city’s finance and personnel committees. During this time, he served as Mayor Pro Tem under Mayor Tommy Metcalf. He has been a generous supporter and served on the board of the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo Association, and is a Lifetime Member.

Jerry has been a generous supporter of Sam Houston State University and established an endowment fund to provide scholarships for Bearkat baseball players. In 2016, he received a Distinguished Service Award from Sam Houston State University. Jerry and Sandra have been blessed with four children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grand children.
